COMPOSITE FILLINGS IN TRURO
Natural-looking fillings planned to protect as much healthy tooth as possible
Composite fillings are tooth-coloured restorations used to repair suitable areas of decay, worn edges, chips or failing fillings. We match the material carefully to your tooth and shape it so that it feels comfortable in your bite.
We take time to show you what we have found and explain the reasonable options. Our recommendation depends on the size and position of the damage, the strength of the remaining tooth and what matters to you.
Why might a composite filling be recommended?
- It can closely match the natural shade of your tooth.
- The material bonds to the tooth, which can support a conservative repair.
- It may be suitable for small or moderate cavities and some failing fillings.
- It can sometimes repair a chipped or worn area after the cause has been assessed.
What happens at the appointment?
- Your dentist confirms the diagnosis and planned treatment. An examination and X-rays may be needed beforehand.
- Local anaesthetic is offered where appropriate so that treatment is comfortable.
- Decay or failing material is carefully removed and the tooth is prepared.
- The composite is bonded and placed in layers, then shaped and polished.
- Your bite is checked and we explain how to look after the tooth.
Choosing the most suitable repair
A composite filling is not always the most predictable option. A tooth with extensive damage, a large crack or very little healthy structure may be better protected with an onlay or crown. If decay is found before a physical cavity forms, monitoring, prevention or Curodont Repair may be discussed instead.

Indicative fees
Tooth-coloured composite fillings are from £180 privately and from £162 for practice-plan members. The fee depends on the tooth, size and complexity of the restoration. Examination, X-ray or other treatment fees are separate where required. You will receive a personal estimate before treatment.
Frequently asked questions
Does having a composite filling hurt?
Local anaesthetic can usually keep the tooth comfortable during treatment. Some temporary sensitivity afterwards can occur; please contact us if discomfort is persistent or worsening.
How long does a composite filling last?
There is no fixed lifespan. It depends on the size and position of the filling, your bite, diet, cleaning and whether you grind your teeth. Regular examinations help us monitor it.
Can an old silver filling be replaced with composite?
Sometimes. We will first assess the tooth, the condition of the existing filling and how much healthy tooth remains. We will explain the benefits and limitations before recommending replacement.
Can composite repair a chipped front tooth?
It may be suitable for many small chips. We also assess why the tooth chipped and whether your bite needs to be considered before treatment.
