Dental bridges in Truro
A fixed way to fill the gap.
A bridge replaces a missing tooth and stays in place. The right design depends on the teeth beside the gap, your bite and how the bridge can be kept clean.
Two common designs
Similar result.
Different support.
Both designs replace a tooth without a removable denture. What they ask of the neighbouring teeth is different.
Resin-bonded
A thin wing holds the replacement tooth from behind. Where suitable, we generally favour this design because it often needs little or no removal of healthy tooth tissue.
Conventional
The replacement tooth is joined to a crown or crowns. This can be a good option when a supporting tooth already needs a crown or substantial restoration.
Choosing carefully
The support comes first.
Teeth
The neighbouring teeth must be healthy enough for the proposed design.
Bite
The position of the gap and the forces across it affect what is predictable.
Cleaning
You will need to clean beneath the replacement tooth and around its supports.
Another fixed option
Supported by implants.
A bridge can also be supported by implants in the jawbone, avoiding preparation of neighbouring teeth. This involves surgery and needs suitable health and bone support.
Indicative fees
A clear estimate before treatment.
These starting fees show the minimum components. Additional wings, supporting crowns or replacement teeth are charged separately. The final design depends on the gap, bite and supporting teeth. Examination, imaging and preparatory treatment may also be charged separately. A written estimate is provided before treatment. View our full price guide.
Questions
Dental bridge FAQs.
Which type of bridge do you usually favour?
Where suitable, we generally favour a resin-bonded bridge because it preserves more natural tooth tissue. If a supporting tooth already needs a crown, a conventional bridge may be a sensible option. The bite, gap and condition of the supporting teeth still need to be assessed.
How long does a bridge last?
There is no fixed lifespan. The design, supporting teeth, bite, cleaning, decay risk and gum health all affect longevity. A bridge may need repair or replacement over time.
How do I clean beneath a bridge?
Superfloss can be threaded beneath the replacement tooth to clean the area that an ordinary toothbrush cannot reach. Interdental brushes or another cleaning aid may also be helpful. We will show you what suits the final design.
What if a resin-bonded bridge comes loose?
Keep it safe and contact the practice. It may be possible to rebond it after the cause has been assessed. Please do not use household glue.
Replace a missing tooth
Start with the whole mouth.
An examination lets us assess the gap, supporting teeth and bite before recommending a bridge or an alternative.
