You’re probably forgetting to brush this part of your teeth

Dentist visits can often be full of surprises, despite most of us thinking that we are brushing our teeth correctly and flossing regularly enough. It is important to reinforce how to brush our teeth with the proper technique and take care of our overall oral health.

  1. Brush for at least 2 minutes twice a day
  2. Floss daily and/or use an interdental cleaner
  3. Brush your tongue
  4. Brush all surfaces of the teeth including inner, outer and chewing surfaces
  5. Use a fluoride toothpaste to help decrease the risk of decay
  6. Use a soft bristle toothbrush whether you use a manual or power brush- bristles that are too hard can damage your gums and may not be flexible enough to remove the plaque
  7. Ensure that you are using the right amount of pressure when brushing and use small circular stokes- if the bristles of the toothbrush are being crushed then you are using too much pressure
  8. Choose a size toothbrush head that feels comfortable and isn’t so large that it won’t clean comfortably and effectively
