Introducing our Flawless Complexion Clinic

This month we caught up with our aesthetics practitioner, Doctor Tina to ask all about our new Flawless Complexion Clinic and what the aesthetics experience is like….

Hi Tina, can you tell our patients all about what you offer?

Absolutely! I offer Azzalure anti-wrinkle injections which can help relax muscles and get rid of wrinkles on the upper part of the face. I can also offer dermal filler to help restore volume to areas in the lower half of the face e.g. the lips and smile lines.

Who are these treatments for?

They are for anybody who feels they would like to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, who feels self-conscious of static lines or notice their skin looks lacklustre – it helps to refresh and rejuvenate. It could be a 20-year-old who has particularly active muscles or someone in their 70’s who wants to restore radiance and create a refreshed complexion. It really is for everyone.

How long does it take?

It depends on the treatment you have. Anti-wrinkle treatments take about 30 minutes. Filler can take a bit longer as numbing cream is applied first for 30 minutes, the treatment time can be between 1 hour to 1 hours 30 minutes. The downtime for anti-wrinkle injections is very minimal but with filler, it will take around 2-3 weeks for the swelling to ease down.

Does it hurt?

With the anti-wrinkle injections, the needle is very fine. It just feels like a bit of a prick but pretty much all my patients have said it’s very manageable and minimal. With the dermal filler, there’s a numbing cream before so you can’t feel anything at all.

How long does it take to get results?

With anti-wrinkle injections you will see results within 2-3 weeks . With dermal filler you can see the results immediately, but you will be swollen so it will take around 2-3 weeks to see the results properly once the swelling has subsided.

How often do people have to come back for top-ups?

It depends on a patient’s objectives and preferences. With anti-wrinkle injections, it can wear off after 2-3 months, so it’s advised to keep on top of it every 3 months. However, lots of people find that after a couple of rounds they don’t have to come as often as it reduces the crease lines. So, they can lessen the course of treatments. With dermal filler, it depends on the type of filler. Usually, it wears away after 9-16 months so it’s a wide range and it depends on the person’s body, but I would say to expect to come for a top up treatment after a year to a year and a half.

What is the cost?

Anti-wrinkle injections commence at £180 with dermal filler starting at £280 but it’s best to have a consultation so I can provide a personal quote once we’ve looked at your skin and what you want to achieve from the treatment.

What are the benefits of having a dentist administer these injections?

Dentists train at university for 5 years and it’s concentrated learning centred around the head and neck, so we are highly trained for facial and neck anatomy. We have a lot of specialist knowledge. We are also using our hands every day to do quite complicated treatments alongside injecting every single day with local anaesthetic. You are in safe hands; our anatomy knowledge is always up to scratch, and we are working in this area every single day.

Will people still look like themselves?

Yes – fascial aesthetics done well should appear as if you have had no treatments done at all. You should simply look fresher and like you but a bit more enhanced. That’s how I like to work – to keep it natural but like you at your very best.

Is it safe?

It is safe but it’s not without risk. Anti-wrinkle injections are very superficial and wear down after 3 months. There are risks that it might not look as good cosmetically if the Botox migrates. However, even the worst-case scenario is safe, it wears off after 3 months and isn’t detrimental to health. Dermal filler is riskier which is why it’s important to go to someone trained. I’ve attended a course to manage risk management if anything should occur, but safety is first and foremost with everything I do and something I take very seriously.
